Today we were very happy to welcome our District Governor and his assistant to our club.  Governor Agrusti spoke to us about the uniqueness of each club and that we each need to find our own identity.  He also spoke of the importance of goals and working toward them.  He was  observant of something that we were all aware of, but it is always nice to see it noticed by someone visiting the club.  Namely, that we have strong attendance at our meetings not because there is an obligation to do that, but that we obviously enjoy being together and working together on a wide range of projects.  This is the way a successful club is supposed to operate.

He is very passionate about the CPR program and has been promoting that as one of his key objectives throughout the District.  When he heard that we were having a presentation to our club on January 16th to explain 'Hands only CPR', he committed to attending that evening event with us.  One of the most poignant things he shared with us was the fact that there are about 400,000 people that have attacks each year that could benefit from CPR.  Only 10% of the people survive and in almost every instance the 10% survived because someone that had been trained in administering CPR was available to work on them right away.  With 'Hands only CPR' it is possible to keep someone alive for 10 minutes, which is usually enough time to get a medic or police officer on the scene that can then take over.

This statistic alone gave everyone in the room pause for thought.  Wyckoff Midland Park Rotary Club is committed to training all of our members in CPR before the end of 2014.

If you would like to learn this and other important life skills, you should consider joining us at one of our Thursday morning meetings.

The following is a very short video from the American Heart Association highlighting the 'Hands Only CPR' metod.
