John D. Hartman Scholarship
John D. Hartman (1924-2002) was a member of Rotary for 37 years. He served as President of the Wyckoff-Midland Park Rotary, and was Governor of Rotary District 7490 in 1988 – 1989. He was an employee of NJ Bell for 39 years. John and his wife, Terry (1924-2011), lived their entire married life in Midland Park, raising their family and being actively involved in Rotary, their church and the community.

One of John’s major interests was the Gift of Life Program. John served as a committee member and active participant from the inception of the program in the District in the 1986-1987 year until his death. Many of the families of the children helped by the program extended their tributes to Governor John for his outstanding dedication to the program. John was also very active in Rotary’s Group Study Exchange Program. John and Terry were able to serve as the team leaders in an Exchange to Australia in 1989-1990.

John was also active in the community outside of Rotary, serving in leadership positions in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, West Bergen Mental Health, the Ridgewood Blood Bank, Midland Park Youth Programs, and the Midland Park Booster’s Club.

John was the heart and soul of the Wyckoff-Midland Park Rotary. Upon his untimely death in 2002, his friends and family contributed to the Club to establish a Scholarship award in his honor.
