District Governor John Mitchell Visits the Club
One of the duties of the District Governor is to visit every Club at least once during their term. With over 50 Clubs in our District, that takes real dedication. Governor John visited the Wyckoff-Midland Park Club this past Thursday. He provided an overview of the health of the District and laid out some broad objectives for the year.

His talk included the challenges of Membership (if the District drops below 1,150, we will be merged into another District!). Hence growing membership is a major goal for all the Clubs this year. As part of the initiative we will be reaching out to the Korean Community especially in Palisades Park to develop members and clubs.

Other key goals include having all Rotarians attend the Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI), having all Rotarians donate at least $100/year to the Rotary Foundation, and continuing to raise funds and awareness to eliminate polio.

Finally he encouraged all the Club Members to get involved at the District level, and plan to attend the District Picnic (September 15), the District Holiday Party, and the District Conference, which this year will be held in Lake George from May 14 to May 17.
Gift of Life Update
Paul reported that Hans is doing well. He had a doctor’s appointment this past Thursday, but the medical staff couldn’t get a clear EKG because he was crying too much.

He has another appointment in two weeks, and may be released to go back to the Philippines in three weeks.
News Notes
The Club had a visiting Rotarian from Cary, NC at the meeting. Tom Geraghty and his wife both joined Rotary August 1st, and have become enthusiastic members. Tom has a business office in Oakland, and he expects to visit us regularly when he is in the area.

We also congratulated our dedicated maître d'hôtel, William Hernandez. William got married this past weekend. We wish him and his new bride all happiness and good fortune.

Rotarian Emmy Eliya is never so happy as when she wins the weekly 50/50:
Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI)

The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) is a multi-district, grassroots leadership development program of member districts organized into regional divisions in various parts of the world.

RLI is a recommended program of Rotary International.

RLI seeks to provide quality education in Rotary knowledge and leadership skills to Rotarians interested in developing their Rotary participation and to those identified by Rotary Clubs as having a potential in club leadership. These educational opportunities will teach skills that will benefit the members in their lives and in their volunteer service.

RLI is a 3 year program (one Saturday each year). In addition, there are post graduate seminars.

The Club will pay for the tuition to all our members to attend. Details on the upcoming dates will be published soon.

This week's chuckle!
