ITN New Jersey

At our April 5th meeting the Club was visited once again by Mary Lyons-Kim, The Director of Community Outreach for ITN New Jersey. Mary has visited us in the past, and made us aware of her organization. Her recent visit updated us on the importance of ITN.

ITN serves seniors over 60 years of age and visually impaired adults over 21 years of age who need transportation. ITN provides rides to any destination within our service area for any purpose including medical or hair appointments, pharmacy, shopping, etc. Their service includes help with steps, doors and packages.

Their clients sign up for the service, and are charged a nominal amount for the rides. Rides are provided by a cadre of volunteers.

Some of their service characteristics include:

  • Available 24/7
  • Available for any type of ride within the service area, with no limitations on ride purpose
  • Rides are provided in private automobiles by trained drivers
  • People 60 years and older, and adults with visual impairments are eligible to join
  • Rides may be booked at any time; discounts are applied for shared rides and advance notice

Mary provided a number of testimonies from seniors who are no longer “home-bound” thanks to ITN.

Information about contacting or volunteering for ITN can be found at their web site http://itnnorthjersey.org/

Congratulations to Rotarian Joe Monaghan who celebrated his 52nd birthday, and to Rotarian Bill Rush who celebrated his 80th birthday. As our old friend, Fr. Mirak, would say, “Sto Lat!”

The RYLA Committee has completed its work. Our Club will be sending 9 juniors to the program this June. 6 are coming from Ramapo High School, and 3 from Midland Park High School.

The Scholarship Committee has begun its work. Letters have been sent to all the schools, and we are awaiting receipt of applications.

The Club is planning to participate in “Team Up to Tidy Up” Wyckoff. Volunteers are asked to meet at Town Hall at 9:00 am on Saturday, April 28. Club Members should wear their Rotary Hats! We will be given gloves, trash bags, and be assigned an area to pick up all the trash that has accumulated over the past year. Please contact John Adams or Paul Platek to sign up.

Rotarian Emmy Eliya is selling tickets to the Allendale Women’s Club Fashion Show. The event will be held at Seasons at 6:30pm on April 24. Contact Emmy for more information.

The next Rotary Leadership Institute session will be held in West Orange on Saturday April 21st7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This is a three part leadership course in which you will learn more about Rotary and obtain great leadership skills. Every Rotarian should at least attend the 1st course. There is no cost to you.
