Al Daloisio, Sr. Scholarship
Al Daloisio, Sr. (1913-1990) was a founding member and past president of the Fair Lawn Rotary Club, helping charter the Club in 1948, and participating as an active member until his death in 1990. Al was born in Paterson, and lived there until he and his wife Grace (1914-2004) moved to Fair Lawn, where they lived for 55 years.

Al’s father, Joseph, founded the Rail Road Construction Company in Paterson in 1926. Al Sr. left school in 1927 to help his father with the business and in 1941 took control of the company, with the help of his brother and sister. Al led the company until 1983, when he turned the control of the company over to his son, Al Daloisio, Jr.

Because he himself had to truncate his own education, Al Sr. was very interested in developing scholarships and other educational opportunities for the youth in Bergen County. Al was also an active member of St. Anne’s Church in Fair Lawn, a member of the Cosmo Club (an Italian American Heritage Club) in Fair Lawn, and the Boys and Girls Club in Garfield.

Upon his death in 1990, and in keeping with his lifelong desire to assist in scholarships and educational projects, his son Al Daloisio, Jr. (a member and Past President of the Wyckoff-Midland Park Rotary), arranged for his family and friends to endow a Scholarship Fund to provide in perpetuity an annual award to an outstanding High School senior in Wyckoff or Midland Park.
