Andy Topp provided an update on the water filter initiative to help victims of the Philippines natural disaster.

Andy Topp, a district Rotarian, is coordinating efforts with local Rotary clubs in the Philippines to provide aid.  The greatest need that they had was for clean water.  He explained how the water filters proved very effective in Haiti after their disaster a few years ago.  They purify water up to 99.9%.  To put that in perspective, water could be taken from a puddle in the road, put through the filter and be safe to drink.  The water filters are being provided by the company that makes them at close to cost at $40 each – they normally sell for $80.  Our club is happy to participate in the program and to contribute in some way to helping the people survive their current challenges.

Having a global Rotary organization is very helpful in having local members that we can trust quickly identifying the greatest impact that we can have on the area.  It also means that they can supervise the effective distribution of the help to the people that can most benefit.  Please consider joining us to increase our ability to help others.
