NY Giants kicker Jeff Feagles provided us an interesting insight into both his personal journey to the NFL and into his Superbowl experiences.

Today, Jeff Feagles who is one of, if not the greatest, kickers in NFL history visited our club to share his path to the NFL and highlights from his 22 seasons as a kicker in the NFL for five different teams.  He was on the New York Giants Superbowl winning team.

The path he followed to the NFL was surprising and very different to what we would have expected.  He only played football for his first year in High School and then gave it up to his senior year.  He went to college on a Baseball scholarship and not a football one.  It was only when they were short of a kicker that they persuaded him to return to the football field.  At the end of his college years, he was not drafted and had to start as a free agent in New England.   Yet, in spite of this almost reluctant start to his career he went on to become the most successful kicker in the history of the NFL and still holds the NFL punting record 71,211 yards.  (see other career highlights here).

Jeff entertained us with several stories and his strong bond with his father and his family were evident as he spoke.  We look forward to hopefully having him back for future Rotary events.
